About Us

SGM Financial Management Ltd was formed with the intention of providing a trusted source of advice to our clients. We believe that your best interests are also our best interests. We want a relationship with you, not just your money and the client is firmly at the heart of everything that we do.

SGM’s advisers have considerable industry experience and combine varying skill sets and personalities to create a company that offers comprehensive financial advice and excellent service with a competitive charging structure.

At SGM we have embraced recent technological changes and are using them to improve our business. We run online meetings and have established a client portal that allows our clients to view live valuations, amend personal information and even directly contact their adviser. Having said that, we still feel that nothing can beat a nice cup of tea and a chat and we are always happy to meet face-to-face with our clients. With some luck, you may even get to meet Guinness, the company mascot!

Our Charges

Our aim is to provide ‘the best service at the best price’. Recent events have made it easier for advisers to transact business and to offer their advice proposition in a swift, streamlined manner. We are well placed to take advantage of these changes and our efficiency is reflected in our competitive charges.

We have decided to make our charges public, via this website and are confident that they represent good value, especially when combined with our service standards.

Our reputation within the industry has also enabled us to negotiate significant product discounts and we intend to pass 100% of these savings on to our clients.

Meet our Team

  • Lisa Shepherd

    Director & Financial Planner

Lisa has worked in the financial services sector since graduating from University in 1996.  She has worked for a major high street bank and one of the largest life insurance companies in the world, but feels that her strengths are working within the IFA world.  Lisa qualified as a financial adviser in 2003 by achieving the Certificate in Financial Planning.  Subsequently she gained the Diploma in Financial Planning in 2013 and is currently studying towards the Chartered status.

Alongside Lisa’s excellent technical knowledge, she is both personable and professional. Throughout her career her clients have trusted her to take them through the different stages of their life plans.
Outside of work Lisa enjoys boating, cooking and spending time with her husband, and of course taking Guinness for his regular exercise.

  • Sam Gibson

    Director & Chartered Financial Planner

Sam graduated from the University of Sheffield in 1996 and immediately commenced his career as an accountant, working for a highly respected firm of Chartered Accountants. In 1999 Sam moved into financial services and commenced training as an Independent Financial Adviser, with the Financial Planning certificate being awarded in 2001. Whilst undertaking client work, Sam continued his studies and was awarded the Diploma in Financial Planning in 2009 and then became a Chartered Financial Planner in 2017.  Sam is also one of only a small minority of advisers in the country who has achieved Fellowship status with the Personal Finance Society, in recognition of his continued development through further study and formal examinations.

Sam brings to the industry both a high degree of experience and professionalism, but also a keen interest in people. He is hugely personable and has always been successful at building strong long-term relationships with his clients. Outside of work Sam enjoys spending time with his family and playing village cricket, along with indulging in his passion for fishing.

  • Tom Munday

    Director & Chartered Financial Planner

Tom originally qualified as a solicitor, before moving into financial services. In 2019, Tom qualified as a financial adviser, becoming one of the youngest dual qualified solicitor/IFAs in the country. Tom has subsequently undertaken additional qualifications in Securities Advice & Dealing, Discretionary Investment Management and Long Term Care, and has recently attained Fellowship status with the Personal Finance Society.

Thankfully, Tom is more than just an exam machine; he is also charming, engaging and easy to speak to, with an ability to make the complex seem simple (even if he does say so himself!).

Outside of work, Tom is a keen sportsman, who has participated to a high standard at golf, tennis and cricket. When not on the course or court, Tom is at the beck and call of his wife and cats!

  • Guinness

Guinness is the company mascot and joined SGM from day one, with his speciality being team motivation.  He can usually be found in a sunny spot, snoozing or patrolling the rooms looking for treats and fuss.  He is available to accompany the advisers on client meetings but insists that gravy bones are a necessity.

Outside of work, Guinness enjoys long walks, snoozing and treats.  Basically, he is a workaholic!
